Beit Iksa's Urban Haven (2013)

Design Studio 4 (DS4), Oxford School of Architecture

The project was located specifically in the village of Beit Iksa, West Bank, Palestine and addressing their critical issues such as water scarcity, management or bird migration that will be done through series of design tools such as ‘cutting’, allowing the village to ‘breath’, and then ‘re-reading’ the landscape of the village. We imagined to design a place where everyone can find peace after the long hard day at work, to stop and take a break from daily struggle, a comfortable place for the local people of Beit Iksa. A place where community can gather and kids can just be kids, swinging, singing, playing together. The winds chimes clinging together creating soothing background sound, series of hanging gardens and fabrics sheltering people from hot summer sun.
